Chipotle Mexican Grill Coming to 2 Bases

Chioptle will be opening locations on two bases in Texas late this summer, Army and Air Force Exchange officials announced today.

This news is almost enough to make me wish we were stationed at Fort Hood or Fort Bliss for easy burrito bowl access. Almost.

If you are stationed there, you are one of the lucky people who will be able to feast on giant burritos ... OK, and periodic salmonella outbreaks.

But there's a group of people who just don't care about Chipotle's recent food-safety PR disasters. Exchange officials might be among them. I confess that I am another. I rarely eat soy, and Chipotle is one of the only chains that does not cook with soy oil, so I eat there often.

No word from the Exchange addressing the food safety concern. There's also no information on whether or not these locations will be among those that serve alcohol, although we're guessing not. But they did include this nice little statement in a press release:

“We want Soldiers, Airmen and their families to have similar dining options on-post as they would anywhere else,” said Air Force Chief Master Sgt. Sean Applegate, Exchange senior enlisted advisor. “The addition of Chipotle brings us even closer to realizing our vision of Freedom Crossing and the Clear Creek Mall as top-tier shopping, dining and entertainment hubs that can compete with the best of what the outside has to offer.”

Save me some chips and guac, friends.
