Plan, Plan, Plan

Hot newsflash from the headlines of my life: planning ahead for a PCS during peak moving season is important.

As in -- more important than work, going to the pool, getting a tan in the hot Georgia sun, training for a triathlon and, yes, blogging here.

Go figure.

Generally speaking I like to make fun of the no brainer press releases organizations put out. But after last week I’m thinking that maybe I’m actually the person at whom these are aimed.  For example, here’s this gem from the DoD: “Planning Key in Peak Moving Season.”

Ya think?

Well, yes, now I do. But as of last Wednesday I thought dealing with a move that was about three months away qualified as big fat overachievement. And then my husband called with this: “They bumped our PCS. We’re moving in 30 days.”

Excuse me? 30 DAYS!? (15 of which I won’t be home). That makes the fact that I didn’t send in our housing paperwork until last week seem like, well, underachievement. Now being 90 on the housing list is no one’s fault but my own. And realizing that there is no way we can eat ALL of the food in our freezer in 30 days is, wait for it … also my fault.

So, friends, newsflash! Planning is key during peak moving season. Take it from me – and don’t forget.
