A Mystery
December 19, 2008|
When my husband finally gets home from his deployment, we will have a big mystery solved. The Mystery of Where He's Been All Week. Because I have no idea.
I keep calling people to give them updates when the info changes -- my mom, his mom, friends -- and they want to know what's going on. They keep asking me questions that I simply don't know the answer to. They want me to speculate; I have learned it does no good to speculate about the Army. All I know is the one-line sentence I keep getting from the FRG: "We are meeting at the company area at ___ o'clock." Period.
I have no idea where he has been. I don't know if he was flying commercial or military. I don't know what he's been eating, what he's been wearing (he sure didn't have an extra week's worth of clothes in his ruck), where he's been sleeping. I don't know why none of the soldiers in the company have called home. I don't know if my husband has been getting this same hurry-up-and-wait treatment. I don't know if the delays have been due to weather or plane malfunction or what.
I wonder if he is hungry. I wonder if he gets on planes and gets back off of them, or if he's been sitting in the same room the whole week. I wonder if he's getting enough sleep, if he has a book to read, or if he has been as jittery as I've been.
I wonder if he's wondering what I've been thinking all week.
I can't wait to see him and give him a big hug. And I hope to solve the mystery in the car on the way home!

Just to be sassy, I hope that isn't the most important thing you have to do when he gets home!
I've got to assume that the Army isn't letting them starve, though I imagine a laundry is too much to ask.
I hope that he gets home soon, and you have a wonderful time together.

If he came through Maine - there is the website to take a look at from the airport greeters.

It's good that you have something to talk about. You know, so you don't have that awkward, "Uh, hi...so, like, I'm excited to see you, and everything? And, um...wow, your hand feels so foreign and yet so familiar. Anyway - oh, you have to go do some ceremony before we can leave? Crap?!"
It's good to have a topic ready.

I understand where your coming from!
My boyfriend is in Afghan. and he was suppose to be gone for 3 days from base and got back a day early. I got an instant message from him that they were back on base thursday and since nothing and he has'nt been online since! I can't help but to worry, get scared, and i have not met his family yet so, i have no clue who to call or how to find out if he's ok. Plus, i'm not considered a spouse yet so, no ones going to be calling me because they don't know i exist!
I'm just here patiently waiting for him to call or email me.

Michelle -
for the future, you two should work out a way for you to get information. When my husband was in Iraq, we weren't married, yet, so he found someone he worked with whose wife would be willing to keep me updated.

Michelle:
I totally recommend finding someone to help pass along info. Back b4 GI Joe and I were engaged and I hadn't met his family, I was lucky because one of my really close girl friends was married to a guy in his unit, so she would pass along news as soon as she heard it. Having someone more in the know helped so much with that first deployment!
Sarah:
I hope your mystery is solved ASAP and that you two are back in each other's arms. I'm praying that it is a wonderful and smooth homecoming.
MERRY CHRISTMAS to everyone!
