What Ya Doin'?

|

I know traffic will be slow around here for the rest of the week given the Holiday. Just a reminder that our Thursday show is canceled due to Thanksgiving, but we'll be on air again Sunday night.

So, what's your Thanksgiving plan? Who's hanging around, who's going away?

If you have a deployed spouse, how do you plan to celebrate Thanksgiving without him/her?

We're getting together with 3 other families (only one non-deployed dad, should be fun for him) and going to the Club for their buffet. None of has to cook! 5 adults, 8 kids, should be interesting, especially as mine are the only girls. But at least we're not traveling or cooking.

We're going to dinner at an aunt-in-law's house (is that a word?), not a far drive and I'm bringing cranberries and rolls for 30 people. My DH is the only one in the military, and is deployed, and I'm not looking forward to the questions and the "pity" looks that I'll receive...I hope I can handle it better than I did at Easter! I was really annoyed.

This (should be!) my last week with my family before the big move. Mom's making dinner and I'm making this delicious dessert called "Tres Leches" (3 milks) and as far as I know it'll be just us. Dad'll take my kid brothers to the movies and my mom and I will probably look through the paper and plan out our (very!) early Black Friday shopping. Although she's doing the shopping and I'm tagging along (hehe). This is the 2nd Thanksgiving we miss due to deployment but at least it represents the fact that it's that much closer to ending. I just hope my battle buddy finds someone to spend the day with since we spent Turkey Day together last year and she's already back in TX.

We are hosting Thanksgiving at our house for the FIRST time. I am completely nervous about it. It isn't going to be a lot of people, but people I don't really know that well!

I'm headed to a neighbor's house. Her husband is also deployed so several of us are going in on dinner. I like to cook, so I don't mind this arrangement and am actually looking forward to it. We'll all understand if one of us slips out a tear or two or needs a few more minutes in the bathroom than usual.

I wanted to avoid just what TripleE posted - the looks of pity and questions - so I politely declined the invitation from my in-laws. I didn't want to be the one stifling a cry or faking a smile while surrounded by most of his family. My dog's surgery happened to be timed for last week, so that was an added reason not to travel.

yep my better half is still deployed, we did the chow hall yesterday (to avoid family for reasons noted above). it was...erm...ok. this year we'll be going to a neighbors house. three of us families are getting together for one big shin dig. i'm bringing pumpkin pie and ten pounds of mashed taters.

this should be interesting since my neighbor hosting it has a fasination with cayanne pepper.

Deployed hubby here, too. This is the second year in a row, and I'll be spending Thanksgiving with his family who lives nearby. Lots of food, laughter, and fun are in store. Although I miss hubby during the holidays I appreciate that the holiday season always seems to pass much more quickly than other times of the year. It's like a little "fast forward" in the deployment, and I am THANKFUL for that. :)

It'll just be me and my hubby this year. I have family close by that we could spend it with but hubs just got back and at his request we are doing Thanksgiving alone since it's the first one in 5 years that he's been here for.

We're hanging home for the holiday. My spouse, thank God, is not deployed. We invited all the single soldiers from his unit (since he's the commander) for dinner...but all of them said no...they all had better offers I guess. I invited a friend whose husband is deployed, but she'd been invited to two other places before our invite!

So...I'm cooking for 2.5. Because even with 2 kids, they eat about as much as 1/2 of one full grown adult. I managed to find a small turkey breast (5 lbs). I'm making mashed potatoes, green beans (fresh, not that casserole - ick), corn, rolls, and sweet potato casserole. I'm making lemon meringue pie and pumpkin pie for dessert. That's about all. We'll be thankful that our family is safe...we'll be in prayer for all those families who are separated by oceans and deserts - praying for their safety and return to the open arms of their families.

I'll be spending tomorrow in the company of friends. One of my friends is hosting for a group of us, some military, some not, some with deployed spouses, some not, some with kids, some not, so it'll be a big ol' mixed bag of us. :)

I'm bringing along a dessert that is a traditional holiday treat where I'm from. And maybe something else. I should call the hostess and see if she needs anything...

Making the long drive to my future in laws house, last time I was there was over a year ago and I wasn't fully welcomed by all so I'm hoping it goes better this time. I'll be praying for all you whose husbands aren't home this Thanksgiving.

DH is home, and we are spending a quiet day at home. This will be our first TDay in 4 years together. Couldn't get leave to go to my folks and glad we didn't plan to go to the son's house (they are getting snow!)

Happy Thanksgiving to the group I spent last TDay with online... thanks for being here. My emails will be open, in case someone needs to vent (just run over to my blog and click) DH said that was cool with him. The pitying looks, the exasperated "but WHY" from my good friends made the last few TDays lousy, so I will understand any screaming, venting, or tears....

correction to my comment above. i just read it and realized i put "yesterday" at the chow hall instead of "last year". whoops. my bad.

LAW, LOL! screaming, venting, tears?! thats my house EVERYDAY. i think we all my have a touch of bipolar ;)

What am I doing? How about going to the airport to pick up Jack Bauer for our first Thanksgiving together in 3 years. That's all. :D

Oh, Butterfly Wife...How wonderful! I hope that you and Jack Bauer have a wonderful holiday together! I can't wait to meet you both at SBLIII

Hubby is deployed, 3 weeks now. Usually we have the house with all the bachelor marines and small families away from home. I LOVE IT...but tomorrow it's mom, the kids, my bro a couple family friends...BUT to do my share of feeding the guys... I volunteered to bring the local police dept meals on wheels on their Thanksgiving shifts. I have to say though I've missed my hubby tremendously today in the the kitchen. He's usually my mixer, chopper and my oh darn I forgot XYZ and he's running to the store. Miss him tons...Happy Thanksgiving !!!

This is the first year I am not cooking Turkey in a long time. My dh is in sand so the kids,my parents and I are eating out. No fuss no muss. A very nice lady, made me an apple pie in honor of my dh. So Sweet.

BW - yay!
