February "What's Your Story" Contest
February 5, 2007|
The topic for this month's contest was inspired by the first book we're reading as part of the new SpouseBUZZ Book Club, Household Baggage. Many of us have had at least one disastrous, zany PCS move during our "milspouse career." I wrote about my first move several months ago. Note to new milspouses: ask lots of questions before the move...
February's topic: "When PCS Moves Go Bad."
I look back on some of my "worst" PCS moves now, and laugh. Though they didn't seem funny at the time, they are hysterical now and contributed to the overall experience of being a military spouse. As airforcewife is fond of saying, "you have to laugh because if you don't, you're going to cry."
Submit an essay on the topic (900 words or less). We'll take submissions from now through February 19. If you don't want to participate in the contest, leave us a comment and tell us about your experiences with PCS moves. Every milspouse I know has at least one story that garners laughs - or gasps. What's yours?

The day that our household items were to be delivered, we recieved very bad news. My DH grandma that raised him had passed away. Only a month after my great grandma passed away. I hope all moves don't go this way.

On our very first PCS we actually watched the driver's assistant/girlfriend break our computer desk in front of us while it was still in our apartment! She just looked at us and said, "Ooops! Sorry." Then we read over the item description on the inventory sheet and it was listed as "broken in two places, damaged, etc." We fought that with TMO and actually got some money back but of course it was depreciated because we'd had the desk for a few years already.

Uuhhmm... can the essay be longer than 900 words?? I know it's a lot to read if you get a lot of submissions, but I don't know if I can chop this down--our PCS mysteriously took 5 months to negotiate and settle.
