Brit MilSpouse Choir Tops UK Charts

A choir of British military spouses has taken their land by storm with a heart wrenching anthem of love and support for their deployed servicemembers -- skyrocketing it to the number one spot on the charts.

And holy cow, is it ever heart wrenching. Billed as a “Christmas” song, this ballad is anything but. This is a song about devotion to your warfighter any time of year. Check out the lyrics below or the video here:

Wherever you are my love will keep you safe
My heart will build a bridge of light across both time and space

Wherever you are our hearts still beat as one
I hold you in my dreams each night until your task is done
Light after darkness my wondrous star
Our hopes and dreams, my heart and yours, forever shining far
Light up the darkness my prince of peace
May the stars shine all around you
May your courage never cease

Ooh,

Wherever I am, I will love you day by day, I will keep you safe, cling on to faith, along the dark, dark way

Wherever I am I will hold on through the night
I will pray each day, a safe return, will look now through the light
Light up the darkness my wondrous star
Our hopes and dreams, my heart and yours, forever shining far
Light up the darkness my prince of peace
May the stars shine all around you
May your courage never cease
Courage never cease

The Military Wives Choir, as they are known, is itself worth blogging about. It came out of a popular BBC2 TV series called “The Choir: Military Wives” which started airing in November. Don’t see anything like that stateside, even on something as obscure as PBS120 (there isn’t such a thing – but if there was I doubt we would see US MilSpouses singing there), do ya? “The Choir: Military Wives” is the sixth “The Choir” installment since 2006 – a show featuring rag-tag choirs set-up by producer Gareth Malone.

Even cooler than the fact that these awesome, brave MilSpouses – who appear to be just as diverse and awesome as our very own military spouse communities – put themselves out there and did this is that all profits from this single are benefiting UK servicemember charities The Royal British Legion and the  Sailors, Airmen and Families Association.

Which brings me to this: go buy the song. No, really.  But have Kleenex handy. And check them out on Facebook.
