Taking 2010 by Storm: On the Road Again.....

|

2010 is going to be a busy year for SpouseBUZZ. We'll host a minimum of four SpouseBUZZ LIVE events next year. I say "minimum" because we may add one or two more events to the calendar.

Today, we can announce that we'll be in Las Vegas on May 1, 2010 for SpouseBUZZ LIVE Nellis Air Force Base. All military spouses are invited. We'll announce more events when dates and locations are locked in, so stay tuned.

We'd like to thank the companies who make it possible for us to bring these events to military communities across the country. The companies below were Gold or Platinum sponsors for our 2009 tour, and we thank them for their unwavering support of military spouses. Without them, there would be no SpouseBUZZ LIVE.

Why ants?  How does this relate to being part of the military world?

Thank You, Camp Pendleton!

|

We had a great time at Camp Pendleton this weekend. For my fellow Army Wives, I was struck by how massive the base is. I called my husband when I arrived and said, "Camp Pendleton is like Ft. Hood on steroids."

I wanted to take a moment to thank everyone for coming out yesterday. The SpouseBUZZ team enjoyed meeting you and talking with you. Most of have been busy traveling to/from Camp Pendleton over the past few days, so blogging has been light here at SpouseBUZZ.  We're all slowing making our way back to our respective homes, so the pace will pick up once we've all landed and caught up on our sleep.

Again, thanks to Pendleton and surrounding-area spouses for sharing your day with us yesterday. We had a blast!

Anticipation ...

|

Three or four times a year, the SpouseBUZZ authors get a chance to actually "SEE" each other in the human form...versus in a two-dimensional digital appearance. We travel from all over, carrying our bags and our laptops and ... our thoughts. For three years now, the auhors have supported each other, supported our collective spouses and been here in our own ways to support each of you, the wonderful folks who are the strongest of the strong -- the military spouse.

Today we converge into Southern California for an opportunity to meet, talk, learn, support and most importantly, BE SUPPORTED by Marine Spouses of Camp Pendleton.  This.Is.Going.To.Be.Great!

You gotta know -- the anticipation of being among each of you is simply awe inspiring.  SEE You Tomorrow!

SpouseBUZZ Heads to Camp Pendleton

|

Our third and final stop of the 2009 SpouseBUZZ LIVE tour will take us to sunny, southern California. We'll be at Camp Pendleton on September 26. This event, once reserved for Pendleton spouses only, has been opened to all milspouses, regardless of where you live. We were able to secure a larger venue on base, so there's plenty of room. San Diego spouses, come on down! For details on the event, and to register (it's free), click here. We hope to see a lot of you in September.

If you're wondering what these events are all about, here's a brief video clip taken at the Hill AFB event in May.

We're in the process of deciding 2010 tour dates/locations and wanted to remind you that we do accept requests to bring the program to military installations. Two of our three stops in 2009 were at the official invitation of the hosting installation. We've received two invitations for 2010 and we're happy to entertain all official requests, so if you want to see SpouseBUZZ LIVE at your installation, let us know.

The Finest Moment of SpouseBUZZ LIVE Utah

|

We had such a great time this past weekend with the spouses from Hill AFB and the surrounding Utah area. Thanks to all of you who attended, we enjoyed meeting you, hearing your stories and spending some time with you. I'm sure several of us will post our thoughts in the coming days, so stay tuned, but for now, I wanted to share what, for me, was the finest moment of the entire day.

During one of the breaks, airforcewife tipped me off to the fact that we had a very special guest at the event. It was a WWII-era spouse. During closing remarks, I said that I hoped this wouldn't embarrass our guest, but I felt I had to recognize the spouse. I pointed her out and mentioned how honored we were to have her attend.

Within two seconds, the over 300 spouses in attendance, without prompting, were on their feet giving this wonderful woman a lengthy standing ovation. It's really hard to capture the emotion of the moment in mere words. Actually, it's impossible to do, I'll just say that it was heartwarming to see this generation of milspouses honor her in the same way that our spouses would honor a WWII vet if the situation were reversed.

Later, we found that we had not one, but two, WWII-era spouses in our midst! I can only imagine the stories these two ladies could share. I was so proud of the spouses for their spontaneous show of affection and appreciation for this woman. What a fine moment it was.....

2009 SpouseBUZZ LIVE Tour Continues

|

The 2009 SpouseBUZZ LIVE tour is in full swing and we're gearing up for our second stop of the tour, which will take us to Hill AFB in Utah. If you're in or near the area, please come join us. Registration is free. We are super-excited about this event and would like to thank the Air Force and the leadership at Hill AFB for making us the kick-off event to Air Force Week.

Click here to register for the Utah event.

And a reminder, the great folks at Marine Family Team Building invited us to Camp Pendleton this fall. We'll be on base for our final stop of the 2009 tour on September 26. Currently, this event is only open to Pendleton spouses. Click here to register for the Camp Pendleton event.

We're really looking forward to meeting the spouses in these areas and making some new friends!

Thank You Hampton Roads Spouses!

|

We had a great time at SpouseBUZZ LIVE Hampton Roads! There were so many people who showed up that we had to pull in more chairs to accommodate everyone, and that's just the way we like it. The more, the merrier...

We're all in various stages of travel, so regular blogging will resume soon, but we wanted to thank the wonderful spouses of Hampton Roads for the warm welcome you gave us. We had a blast meeting you, hearing your stories and hanging out with you.

Thank you for taking the time to come out yesterday, and for making us feel so welcome in your community. We hope to see you again sometime soon!

SpouseBUZZ LIVE: Registration is Open

|

Just a reminder that registration for SpouseBUZZ LIVE Hampton Roads is now open. We're a little less than three weeks away from the big date and we're all anxious to get back on the road and meet more military spouses. We're also looking forward to the Lansdowne concert, which will be part of our Hampton Roads event.

At each of our events, we've had military spouses caravan from other locations and make a girl's weekend out of it. Hampton Roads is a very manageable drive from Ft. Bragg, Camp Lejeune and the Washington, DC area. If you're located in one of these areas, consider getting some friends together and coming to the event. It'll be a memorable weekend and you may even go home with some great prizes like jewelry, appliances and even gift cards!

SpouseBUZZ LIVE in Hampton Roads, VA on April 4

|

Registration is now open.

We'll kick off the 2009 SpouseBUZZ LIVE tour on April 4 in Hampton Roads, Virginia. We are super-excited to go back to the area. This time, we're pretty sure we'll have better weather!

SpouseBUZZ LIVE Hampton Roads will be a little different than our past events, but in a very good way. For one thing, we'll be featuring a mini-concert. That's right, troop-supporting, USO-touring rockers Lansdowne will be playing for the military spouses of Hampton Roads, and they're pretty psyched about it. The guys are used to performing for our spouses overseas, but this time the tables will be turned. Spouses in attendance will have the opportunity throughout the day to pose for photos with the band, get their autographs and purchase their CDs.

We are charging a nominal fee of $9.99 per person for this event, but don't worry, you're going to get a huge bang for your buck. Each attendee will receive a super-nice tote, which is great on its own, but the bag will be filled with goodies, information and surprises from our sponsors, plus you'll have plenty of room to add additional gifts from the vendor booths, and raffle prizes (except the ones you can't carry, like appliances....).

We have never charged a fee for our events, but we do order food and beverages based on the number of registrations and in the past, we've had more registrations than actual attendees, so this helps us plan more accurately and it allows us to bring additional entertainment to you.

So, for $9.99, you will get a fantastic day of fun and fellowship with other military spouses, a concert, food and beverages, lots of freebies and a chance to win some really incredible raffle prizes.

Registration is now open, click here to register. We'll see you on April 4!

The full program runs from 8:45A - 3:00P and will be held at the following location:

Virginia Beach Holiday Inn Executive Center
5455 Greenwich Road
Virginia Beach, VA  23462

Agenda:

8:45 - 9:15            Registration
9:15 - 9:30            Opening Remarks by Special Guest
9:30 - 10:45          Panel #1: A Humorous Look at the Milspouse Experience
10:45 - 11:15        Lansdowne Concert
11:15 - 12:00        Break and Vendor Stroll
12:00 - 1:15          Panel #2: Making the Most of the Milspouse Experience
1:15 - 1:30             Raffle Drawing
1:30 - 3:00            Optional break-out session: Virtual Connections, Vendor Stroll

SpouseBUZZ LIVE Heads to the West Coast

|

We're hitting the east coast in April, and our third stop on the 2009 SpouseBUZZ LIVE Tour will take us to the west coast. The wonderful folks at Marine Corps Family Team Building on Camp Pendleton extended an invitation for us to come to their base, and we're going to do just that.

On September 26, 2009, SpouseBUZZ LIVE will take place at the NEW Marine Corps Family Team Building Family Readiness Center (Building 1795). Seating is limited, and currently this event will be open only to Camp Pendleton spouses. However, we may be able to open registration for non-Pendleton spouses at a later date.

We'd like to thank the Marine Corps Family Team members for inviting us to their base. We're very excited to meet the Pendleton spouses and share a day of fun and fellowship with them.

More information on the 2009 SpouseBUZZ LIVE Tour, including how to register, will follow in the coming days.

If you would like SpouseBUZZ come to your installation, just ask. We typically plan our events several months out, and we do have our 2009 schedule set, but we carefully consider all invitations and will try our best to accommodate any and all official requests.

Hampton Roads, Here We Come....

|

We had a blast at Hampton Roads last year. Area milspouses were robbed because Hurricane Hannah decided to visit the same day of our LIVE event. Even with the high winds and torrential rain, 80 out of 700 registrants decided to show up. Some driving as much as 200 miles to attend. Now that's  dedication.

On April 4, 2009, we're making Hampton Roads our first stop on the 2009 SpouseBUZZ LIVE tour. We're hoping for better weather this time.... Mark your calendars, more information will follow in the next couple of weeks.

Thank You Sea-Tac MilSpouses!

|

We had such a blast at SpouseBUZZ LIVE Tacoma! The area milspouses were so warm and gracious, and we felt right at home. We wanted to thank all of you for coming out and sharing an incredible day with the SpouseBUZZ team. What a fantastic event!

As Guard Wife mentioned in her live-blogging post, Sinbad stopped by to deliver a brief and funny tribute to the milspouses in attendance. I have video of Sinbad's entire routine, which I'll post early next week. Meanwhile, here's a little photo (click to enlarge):

One again, thanks to all of you who turned out on Saturday. The house was packed and we had a great time. The resource links that I promised all of you will be posted here tomorrow, so be sure to check back.

On the Road Again....

|

Tacoma, here we come!

Our last stop on the 2008 SpouseBUZZ LIVE Tour will take us to the beautiful northwest. Tacoma, to be exact. So, for all you spouses based at Ft. Lewis and surrounding areas, we want to see you on November 15. Click here for details, and to register (registration is FREE). It's a great day of fellowship, fun and laughs. Some of you will walk away with incredible prizes, too. Things like iPods, jewelry, gift cards, vacuum cleaners, wine chillers and more.

You don't want to miss this event. Don't take my word for it, just look what previous attendees have said:

Not much I can say except WOW! It was an awesome day. It is a day that turned my life as a military wife into a different direction. It made me put into perspective some things that I guess I just didn't have a grasp on yet.

– Sgt's Wife, SpouseBUZZ LIVE Ft. Hood

Thank you for a wonderful event. Loved it. When you have another one I want to come and bring all the young wives from my unit. What a wonderful experience, absolutely worth the babysitter and dragging myself out bed. Thank you!!!!!!

– ArmyMom, SpouseBUZZ LIVE Ft. Bragg

I walked out a bit shelled shocked from having had such a great time and being treated like a VIP for the day. And to think I actually considered not going!

– Navy Wife, SpouseBUZZ LIVE San Diego

It was a great day. Thank you guys for coming out. I had no clue what I was in for but so glad I went!

- photogbreezy, SpouseBUZZ LIVE Hampton Roads

It was great fun, and if SpouseBUZZ Live rolls through the area again next year, be sure to go. The connections made that day have turned out to be new friendships, business possibilities, and increased visibility for the Spouses' Club of the Fort Sam Houston Area.

- Postscripts Newsletter (Spouses' Club of the Ft. Sam Houston Area), SpouseBUZZ LIVE San Antonio

Thank You San Antonio and Ft. Hood Spouses!

|

Wow - I hated for SpouseBUZZ LIVE to end today, we were having way too much fun! Thanks to everyone who came out and spent part of their day with us. The SpouseBUZZ crew enjoyed meeting you, and hearing your stories. You gave us a very warm welcome and we were truly touched by your hospitality. We've GOT to come back to San Antonio again....

If I had to ride a tropical storm out, I can't think of a better group of people to ride it out with than military spouses. Thanks to all of you who braved Hurricane Tropical Storm Hannah and showed up to spend a very wet and and windy day with other milspouses. The SpouseBUZZ team had a great time meeting you, sharing our stories with you and listening to your stories.

Thank you Hampton Roads, for the tears and the laughs. What a great group of ladies you are.

Regular blogging will resume once we make our way back home, so stay tuned....

Liveblogging SpouseBUZZ Live: Panel I

|

Guard Wife is a little stressed that she has to be funny on the "Humorous Side to Military Life" panel. She's waiting for bar results (applause)! In her state, she doesn't get a formal letter; she just gets her name put on a website, for all her classmates to scroll through.

AirForceWife introduces herself: I had to bring my kids because my husband is gone. If you see me giving the stink-eye across the room, it's not at you!

She of the Sea: I pawned my kids off on my mother; if she lives within two hours, she HAS to watch them, right?

AWTM: I'm Toddler Mom, but my kids aren't toddlers anymore. My husband is National Guard, I'm getting ready to get back into the work force.

We're Still On! SpouseBUZZ Live Hampton Roads

|

There have been lots of questions about our SpouseBUZZ Live event in Hampton Roads tomorrow.  Tropical Storm Hanna seems to be heading that way, but she's predicted to be a fast one and shouldn't have too much impact on the area.  The hour-by-hour forecast at Weather.com predicts that the worst of it will be between 6 am and 3 pm on Saturday, so rather than sitting in your house on a rainy Saturday, come on out and enjoy a little friendship and fun with us at the Holiday Inn Executive Center in Virginia Beach.  It's just off Route 264 where it meets 64, near the place where Virginia Beach, Chesapeake and Norfolk all come together.  What a convenient location!

For more information, click on the big box to the right and sign up to join us!

P.S.  For those of us who can't join us due to the weather, we understand!  Please stay safe and we'll see you next time.

I just registered for Spousebuzz LIVE Hampton Roads

|

After a whirlwind couple of weeks, I have finally registered to attend Spousebuzz Live in Hampton Roads, Virginia on September 6th.

If you have been meaning to register but haven't done it yet, you can do so here.  I attended my first Spousebuzz LIVE in Fayetteville and I really had a great time.  We laughed, we cried, we bonded.  As an extra benefit, Air Force Wife does a cool  Russian mother in law impression...  she will have you in stitches.

So who's up for the party?

Hittin' the Road: Is SpouseBUZZ Coming to a Town Near You?

Testimonials from past events:

Not much I can say except WOW! It was an awesome day. It is a day that turned my life as a military wife into a different direction. It made me put into perspective some things that I guess I just didn't have a grasp on yet. – Sgt's Wife, SpouseBUZZ LIVE Ft. Hood

The Men Behind the Women Behind the Men

|

I got a special treat on Sunday, I got to see LAW. As much as I adore LAW, and I have met her before, that's not the treat I'm talking about. No, my treat was meeting her husband, the man I've read and heard about for probably two years now through blog entries and comments. I told him that we just love his wife. I think he's pretty fond of her, too.

SpouseBUZZ LIVE: From Coast-to-Coast

|

I think all of the SpouseBUZZ authors will tell you that while we love the interaction with you on the blog, in the chat room and on the radio show, our favorite thing to do is to travel to military towns and actually meet and interact with military spouses face-to-face. And this fall, we're going to be doing a lot of that.

September, October and November are already booked. We're heading to Norfolk, San Antonio and Seattle/Tacoma, and we can't wait to get there! We are so excited about our fall line-up. We'll be introducing some fun, new elements into the program. If you've already attended a LIVE event, come back for more!

For more information, see the links below:

Norfolk - September 6

San Antonio - October 18

Seattle/Tacoma - November 15

Mark your calendars now. Registration is already open for those of you who may want to register this far in advance.

Much more to follow in the coming weeks.

Deep breaths. Deeeeeep breaths.....

This was my internal mantra while on the 2nd panel at SBL3 in Fayetteville.  After about 2 sentences, I started crying and surprised the heck out of myself.  I mean, DH was wounded 2 1/2 YEARS ago and I still manage to get emotional (at the most unexpected moments).

Fortunately, I had my SB family (and my awesome mother-in-law) there with me and I was able to gather myself together.

SpouseBuzz Live 3...Remains of the Day

|

I can't believe almost a week has passed since SpouseBuzz LIVE took place in Fayetteville.  It's also hard to believe how many times a man can say, "Let's just do it and then we can talk" in one week's time.

If you don't know what that's in reference to, you either weren't paying attention in Fayetteville or you haven't watched the archived event at SyncLive.

Even with final exams looming, my brain has processed SBL3 and plenty of good things happened.

Blogging SpouseBUZZ LIVE

|

I thought it might be a good idea to introduce the Fayetteville spouses to some of the non-SpouseBUZZ bloggers who attended SpouseBUZZ LIVE. And a reminder, if you decide to start a blog, please let us know about it, we want to read your blog.

Rosemary, who had travel woes.

LAW, who has been with us from the time we opened the doors.

Stephanie, who has her own poop story. I feel your pain, Stephanie.

Butterfly Wife. Who came to SBL with her husband who is on R&R!

Marine Wife, the cutest lady I've ever seen.

Wife Unit. A real sweetheart!

Household6, who helped work the event.

If I've missed someone, please let me know.

Thank You Ft. Bragg/Pope Spouses

|

It's 11:05 p.m. and I've just returned to my room. I am exhausted, yet oddly energized. Spending the last few days, and today in particular, with military spouses has been a wonderful experience. SpouseBUZZ LIVE Ft. Bragg/Pope was a huge success. Today, I was surrounded by my sisters and my brothers. I felt right at home among you. We laughed and we cried (especially when Cliff Hudson performed).

Today we celebrated the one thing we all have in common - military service. I met several wonderful spouses today. I wish I could have met all of you. Whether I met you or not, you made an impression on me. You reminded me how proud I am to be a military spouse, and how lucky I am to have an army of sisters and brothers.

I'm sure many of us will have a lot more to say about this event in the coming days, but I didn't want to go to bed without saying thanks to all the spouses who attended today. You're all beautiful and strong and fabulous.

SpouseBUZZ LIVE Ft. Bragg/Pope: It's Hip!

Our first SpouseBUZZ LIVE Ft. Bragg/Pope AFB commerical is done. The director just emailed the final cut. My co-star is one of our favorite people in the world, Vince Patton. Who's up for a road trip?

|

I am!!!  I noticed in the comments for Andi's post announcing Spousebuzz Live 3 that there are spouses in the DC/Virginia area who want to attend but would like to carpool.

That just sounds like F-U-N to me.  Road trips always do sound like fun to me though...road trip food, road trip music, road trip hijinks..  and the fun doesn't end when the trip is over.  We're going to Spousebuzz Live, baby!!!

I live in Northern Virginia near Quantico.  Would you all like to caravan/carpool to Ft. Bragg?

We could consider this post a sign up to get folks together.

An Early Holiday Gift for Military Spouses

The Holiday season is generally rough on military families that have a loved one deployed. I remember attending midnight service on Christmas Eve....alone. While that is my favorite service of the year, my better half was across the globe and my heart was heavy.
