A recent deer in headlights moment.
October 12, 2009|
The other day I was working with a nurse going through childcare information so she could check things off in the computer that different topics had been reviewed and they could be confident in our ability to care for the latest addition to the family.
But then she went ahead and threw a curve ball...
"How many floors is your house?"
And for the life of me I *could not* picture our house at all. Such a tricky tricky question.
I remembered the apartment we lived in at our last duty station. The house we moved into when we pcs-ed. A mish mosh combination of all the houses we have lived in was coming into my mind and I got this horrified look on my face. I laughed a little and asked her why I couldn't answer such a simple question. And I can't even blame it on pregnancy brain anymore. Terrible.
So I have decided to blame it on the military lifestyle and moving so much. I might be too new to the game to have much truth in it, but I am hoping she bought it.
What other mental flubs can we blame on milspouse-dom?

I never know my own social, phone number or zip code! After four years, I'm almost there....almost!

so that she could lecture you on childgates or something?

Same as GBear. Plus where to find stuff! I can picture where it lived in a previous house, just not in THIS house.

It has been years since I've memorized a phone number, but I blame that more on having them all just programmed into my cell.
I've got the last of my SSN and GI Joe's down pat, but I flubbed up when I was on vacay and had to visit a civilian doc's office (my parents' doc actually). Did you know that expect $$$ at the end of the visit!?! I had forgotten that!

I always forget who I knew where. At our current duty station I have friends from every place (except one) we have lived over the past 12 years.
I always find myself saying, "Hey, remember when.... oh, nevermind. That was in place X." Or, "Wasn't it awesome when... oh, nevermind. That was in place Y."
Lather, rinse, repeat. I do this ALL the time!

I have a problem that most seem to have as military spouses (at least once in military life, right?) - a blank mind and stare when someone asks me for my SSN.
You know it has to be amusing for the person on the other side - duh- this crazy lady can't remember her own #! I do the same thing with my phone # - I never call myself, right? HE HE

I was filling out a form yesterday and couldn't remember what base we are stationed at. We don't get to live on base here and I've only been there 3 or 4 times in the 3 months since we moved, but it still seems like one of those details I should remember.
