Fit Club, the Monday Edition
May 11, 2009|
Clearly, I'm not sticking to the lovely every Friday Fit Club schedule that AirForceWife used. She's much more organized than I am.
Plus, I was hoping that I would see some results from all this exercise because I didn't want to write about how stuck and frustrated I was feeling. Fortunately, my body cooperated and I am feeling great today. My scale has finally noticed that I've been eating super-well and exercising all the time, plus my abdominal muscles are feeling stronger (but only from the inside - I still can't find them from the outside!) I have done an awful job of getting to the gym but I have walked nearly every day, I'm doing lots of ab work, and I finally broke out our Wii Fit to get through the rainy weather we've been having.
This journey is hard. I guess that is why I've waited 10 15 years to do it. I am thinking, however, that it would have been a lot easier when I was younger. Oh, well, I can't worry about that, all I can do is look to the future, get myself together and then keep it that way. And you know what, I know that I can do it! I wish that we could all meet in person to give each other encouragement, but for now we'll have to use SpouseBUZZ to cheer each other on.
I want to give an extra shout out to all of you who are doing this with small kiddos or working outside the home. I work at home and all my kids are in school, and I find that all this exercising and eating well is really time consuming. I'm in awe of people who can work good nutrition and exercise into their day if they are in an office and/or have small children.
I hope that all the mothers had a great Mother's Day, and everyone enjoyed their weekend! Summer is coming and we can have fun with all those outdoor activities soon!

I have been doing pretty well, for a beginner. I have stuck to my schedule of 1.5 miles every other day. So far so good. No noticeable difference in weight or anything, but I feel better about myself for putting in the effort.

it seems that you really had fun. My mom and I had a date yesterday. We just ate. =)
Anyways, belated happy mother's day to all military spouses as well as the mothers of our brave soldiers around the world. =)

good for you! and i hate to tell you this, but the body doesn't really recognize huge increases in exercise either. i am an ultrarunner, and work out 2-3 hours a day, and still weight what i did 10 years ago when i didn't exercise. but i have decided that skinny does not equal fit and healthy!

SotS -- More from me. I did my elliptical again today, and I tried hard to step up the pace. I went 1.8 miles in the same amount of time. I started to wonder what the Army PT standard is for females my age, so I looked it up. Now cut me some slack because I am WAY out of shape, but I am only about a minute below the minimum standard. So my goal for the next six months (before my birthday when I hit the next age standard) is to consistently be able to at least *pass* the Army PT 2-mile run...well, on an elliptical, at least.
Baby steps. But now I have a goal to work towards.

Aha, I guess my earlier comment went into comment netherland.
Sarah, I think you really hit upon it when you said "I feel better about myself for putting in the effort." That's really what's important, right?
That seems like a great goal.
