Respite Care

|

It's tough on caregivers to maintain 24/7 care of their loved one.  After several years, I can't imagine how some families are still able to hold it together.  Now, TriCare offers primary caregivers of active duty servicemembers rest, relief, and reprieve authorized by section 1633 of the 2008 NDAA.

The respite benefit helps homebound active duty servicemembers who need frequent help from their primary caregiver. This benefit provides a maximum of eight hours of respite per day, five days a week. Active duty servicemembers, or their legal representatives, can submit receipts for reimbursement of respite care services beginning Jan. 1, 2008, by a TRICARE-authorized home health agency.

For more information on this benefit visit TRICARE’s Web site.  Make sure you look into all the details if you need this and feel you should qualify!

I'm sure that many people will be glad to hear about this. What a valuable benefit for the families of our injured service men and women. Thank you, GBear, for bringing this to our attention. Hopefully none of us will ever have to use this, but it is good to know. Maybe we can help someone else with this information.

We are appealing to you to form a familial bond through patriotic duty and petition all members of the Congress of the United States of America; all Senators and Members of the House of Representatives to pass a bill making the availability of Mental Health a code of honor.

To lend your voices to ensure that all military personnel and their immediate families, upon return from war be supported through mental care and funding for long term care for those suffering form anxiety, panic disorders, depression and other war-related psychiatric illnesses.

Returning home is a very difficult transition and post-traumatic stress would make this return to "normalcy" very troublesome. Mental health care is seriously lacking as government squabble over funding while families are being broken.

Soldiers ask their families to sacrifice unconditionally in order for them to serve this country therefore, their families should not have to endure additional burden upon their return - it the responsibility of the government to ensure the families are properly cared for after the fact.

Thank you
