Home is Where the Heart Is
August 18, 2008|
For the past three years, Lancelot and I have been away from the Marine Corps. He went to school and then into a joint billet. We weren't entirely away from the Corps because of our son but we still missed being within our community.
That all changed for the better on Friday.
Lancelot is now with a Marine unit. It doesn't deploy; it's a training unit but we're back in the Marine Corps family again.
There was a ceremony on Friday afternoon and I was surrounded by Marines and their families. It was pure bliss. In the audience, were some of my favorite folks: Queen Bee, Air Force Wife, Cassandra as well as friends from as long as 23 years ago.
I have always described deployment homecomings as being the happiest place on Earth for that day. Although Lancelot wasn't on a deployment (you would be amazed at the frequent flyer miles he's wracked up though), this WAS a homecoming of sorts and it was, in fact, the happiest place on Earth for us.
We are home.

No offense to the other services, but it really is like coming home when you've been away from the Corps for awhile. We're away again and this time I don't even have our sister services around. Can't wait to come home again!

Friday's ceremony was so awesome! This Air Force wife is more than happy to admit that no one can do awesome parades like the Marines.
And my son had a TIME watching, too. Wouldn't it be funny if, in about 13 years, the son of Air Force Guy decided that being a Marine was the only way for him to go?
Hah!

MW, thanks for clarifying that. I meant no disrespect at all towards our sister services..it just feels like going home when you get to go back to the Marine Corps.
AFW, I can't thank you and the AF Kids enough for coming. It was great to know you were all there. Glad the boy liked it. If he does go USMC, forgive him..:) and know that I'll be around to translate, validate, commiserate, etc...

Even though I love our Army life, I have some SERIOUS Corps envy.
I'm so glad you guys are "home".

It's not the size of the wave. It's the motion of the ocean, baby.
