SpouseBUZZ Fit Club: Report In!

|

You know, you people are keeping me in check.  Honestly.  The very thought that I have to report in every Friday about how well I've managed to keep up does wonders to stop me from running through that drive through in a haze of addictive frenzy.

Accountability - it works.

Jeans are still getting looser, not as fast as I'd like, but enough to know that there's definitely a difference.  To my utter horror, I had to drop bread from my diet this week, too.  First fast food, then sugar, now bread.  OH, THE HUMANITY!

And before we really get into the Fit Club post - we need to give a few shout outs!  Army Blogger Wife and Aircrew Fiancee have made some great strides in their Fitness journey, losing nearly 20 and over 10 pounds respectively on healthy diet plans - Please give them a hoo-ah, hoorah, outstanding, or whatever your service choice of noise is.  Christine reported great success through week three of Couch to 5K, Homefront 6 is rediscovering her swimming roots, and LAW is sticking with it even when she is too tired to scratch her nose.  If there's one thing we've learned about LAW here on Spousebuzz, she is honest and to me that is a GREAT inspiration.  OUTSTANDING, you all!

Keep reading, after the jump I have some great pictures!

I've been very good about following my exercise routine.  Believe it or not, aside from the Fit Club posts, I have a mantra I follow in a quote from Sarah's husband.  Sarah's husband is a very matter of fact kind of guy, and I'm not very matter of fact at all.  That's why the quote works so well.

What it boils down to is this:  some people have great bodies with little effort because of genetics.

Well, I know darn well THOSE genetics missed me.  So I'd better get my butt off the couch and go work out, because it's not going to get any better unless I do.

Kind of takes the hemming and hawing out of the equation for me.

Also, I got some great new workout moves from a great program my kids attended last Friday afternoon at a business here called Fitwize 4 Kids.  I ask you, what could be more cute than a 5 year old on a miniature rowing machine?  Not much.

Fitwize has great supervision and great motivation.  My kids LOVED it and can't wait to go back.  The trainer working with them, a very energetic man named Saied, had them spend about 1 minute at each station before a marvelous British accent would announce, "ro-TATE!" and the kids would go on to the next exercise.

A seven year old on a stair-master!  I nearly died laughing - not only did my kids get a workout that exhausted them and yet pumped them up, but the cute factor was totally undeniable.

I also got some great ideas to add to my circuit routine from some of the floor exercises that Saied had the kids doing.  So it benefited the kids and mom!

I have to say I was tremendously impressed with the whole concept of Fitwize4Kids, as well as how it was actually run.  The children were excited as heck with the idea of getting to work out on the same equipment Dad uses, but sized for them.  Saied not only motivated them, but watched carefully to make sure that they were doing the exercises correctly and not harming themselves, the quick changes kept their attention, and the workout was over an hour long (parents are not required to stay and watch) - well worth the 10$ per child homeschool class fee.

I may be the one in our family really focusing on SpouseBUZZ Fit Club, but the kids definitely benefit from being introduced to ways to integrate good habits.  They can't wait to go back to Fitwize.

So - report in all of you!  This week I'd love to hear about everyone's diet pitfalls!

my pit fall... after dinner snacking! once I start eating..hard to stop. I've been doing the stairs, and trying to walk at lunch when it isn't too evil and wet outside. but right now, I am able to sleep, and that's making me really happy, so I'm not up in the early am, to do yoga. Weekends, we do a lot of walking (no not just the commissary either!) Sunday was the Natural History Museum and while you aren't walking briskly, you sure do stay on your feet a long time. and the walk around the Mall is wonderful.

Pants aren't looser yet.. gotta concentrate, darn it, on moving the caboose and stopping the post dinner grazing. time to get back to the crocheting after dinner... hands busy, can't shove yummies in mouth!

The Fitzwise looks awesome, but it makes me think... waaay back in the mists of time, when I was a wee lass, we ran around, all over the neighbourhood and we didn't need to have fitness machines. Now, I wouldn't let my granddaughter run around the neighbourhood... not without me! sad, isnt' it?

LAW

Well.. I'm new to it but I'd like to join the FitClub :) I was doing perfectly fine before Dh got back from over there and was only a few lbs to my pre-pg weight.. my pitfall? We went to NOLA on leave and mom's home cooking & the NOLA food just "helped" me gain many lbs back >_< ..
Good news is that I've been working out daily each week (maybe it's b'c I remembered the ball is tomorrow! and I wanted to wear my dress .. lol) and so far so good, nothing noticeable but the fact that I'm doing it again makes me proud of myself :)Oh, you know the infomericals that show the push up things that are used by the Navy seals? hehe.. Saw one last night at walmart and bought it, I'm going to use it today and see how it works. I'm actually excited about it :)

Thanks for the shout out! Thats some great encouragement.. and big HOOAH to all of you!

Thats a really good quote, I had a conversation about exercise that was very encouraging. It went something along the lines of... We dont jump out of bed for work and yell YAY WORK TIME! I LOVE WORK! We go because were responsible, and hopefully we enjoy it. Treat execrise the same way. If we waited to exercise until we jumped up and screamed I LOVE EXERCISE... it would never happen. So treat it like work, its the responsible, good thing to do and you get rewarded for it.

I went from going to the gym 0 times a week, to 4 times so far, & today should make 5 times this week. I have a weigh in tomorrow morning.. ill let you know how it goes!

Pit Falls:

1) I bought a TON of girl scout cookies and sent them to DF (darling fiance? sure! why not?)to share with the people hes deployed with. I bought 1 box of samoas for myself. No control.

2) not 1, but 2 pot luck lunches at work

3) starting to get easter stuff ready to send to DF... damn those Cadbury eggs and jelly beans.

but forget the bad stuff... think of small steps...i now drink 8 glasses of water every day, take a multivitamin, a fiber dose, am exercising, i feel happier, eating less, eating better

nobody is perfect and going to do everything right the first time.. give yourself a pat on the back for all the things your doing right :)

I haven't been to the gym this week since Gunner is leaving, but I do lift some weights dumbells and do leg lifts with a weight on to help.

Chasing children has to count for something too, right? Once Gunner is gone, it is back to full force as I will ONLY have over 450 days to get it all together. Maybe I can convince myself that time will fly?

I've found an added bonus to running - it's led me to finally meet my neighbors!

A Giant HOOAH to all who have done well this week! Aircrew fiance- I love the encouraging comment about exercising because it's responsible just like work. That's a great way to look at it!
I have to be honest here- For me this was has been a big bummer in the fitness department! I went to the gym Saturday but it closed early and we were too late. I did manage to get in a good workout Sunday (Rock climbing plus some cardio) Monday's I usually do cardio but took this monday off. Tuesday I went to the gym to climb and it was CLOSED due to a power outage. It was too cold and yucky outside to run outdoors. Big Bummer! Wednesday's I have another commitment. Thursday's I usually climb but my buddy was sick so I decided to be lazy and go shopping instead of working out. And, well today is Friday and I'm going to see Jerry Seinfeld instead of working out. Plus- I haven't made great food choices this week! I've chosen to eat seconds more than I've chosen to stop when I am full. Very sad. Next week will be better! I PROMISE! I start by spending all day Saturday Rock climbing outdoors! Thanks for keeping me accountable!

I really need to start joining you guys! Hopefully in the next week or two I can find the way to start the journey!

I agree with wifeunit, I need to join as well. You guys are doing great!

my pitfall is that I forget to diet. I can't resist a good burger or a nice heaping helping of chinese food. Le sigh...

I work out on a regular basis, but I'm convinced that I would have my "perfect" body (you all know what i mean ;-) rock hard abs and all!) if I could just stick to a damn diet.

I shoveled! And then I shoveled some more....then because the good Lord didn't think I'd worked out enough this winter....I shoveled some more! With 2 feet of snow over two days, I think I worked out enough!

How can I sign on?

LaraM - There's no signing on necessary! Every Friday morning we post something about our fitness journey and we absolutely encourage you to join in!

I know having to talk about it every week keeps me honest, and I've gotten some of the BEST ideas for diet and fitness from the other participants!

Ok, now that I figured out how to post and that my search for the "join" button will now end, I hope I can join in on the FITCLUB!
Starters, what do I need to do to initiate?
Husband is deploying in 4 weeks, and together we started today, a low calorie - yet healthy(fruits and veggies - more fresh then processed)
Of course we both have lose weight as a main target for the deployment homecoming.
Felt good! I know I work better when I keep a journal but today, I did awesome without it. When do I weigh in for starting weight? and all that wonderful stuff? Thanks a bunch...oh and of course, only if you will have me!!!
Lara

Thanks a bunch! Can't wait to check back on Friday!!!

For fun stuff with your kids, try indoor rock climbing.
