Advice from the Trenches
March 27, 2008|
When taking a roiling horde of children to get passports done, be sure to take some kind of calming medication. Valium might work. Or large quantities of wine.
For you, or for the kids. It really doesn't matter much. Either they will be quiet and good for the ten hours you wait in line, or you won't care how they're behaving.
I wish someone had told me that before we had to go to the Post Office for our passport applications this morning. One way or another, it would have kept my blood pressure within acceptable levels.
Also - the Post Office won't let you use their bathroom. I'll throw that tidbit in for free.

I'm so sorry this happened to you!
I've had good luck downloading the forms from the Dept of State website, filling out all the paperwork at home, and just handing over the paperwork at the post office.

Thanks, AFW. Now I'm really, really looking forward to taking the brood to get new passports. I've been putting it off, first, out of fear for my sanity and second, out of fear for my checkbook. You'd think they could cut us a break on that! I'm assuming everyone survived since you were able to post this!

Ahh, but you still have to wait in line to be served... THAT was the kicker.
Whoda thunk so many people would up and decide to go get passports on a Thursday morning?
