Milspouse Confession #44,658: Silver Linings
January 25, 2008|
If my husband was to deploy, I think football season was the best time of the year. I would become the sole owner of the remote control on Thursday night, all day/night Saturday and all day/night Sunday. No audible screaming or cursing at the television would occur. A blissful existence.
My confession? I ended up putting football on the tube just for the background noise. I even paid attention to the progress of my husband's team while he was away. If confronted with this confession by my husband, I will deny, deny, deny....
The Superbowl is next Sunday. My husband's team will be playing. Can I please come spend the night with one of you next Sunday?

Sorry, Andi but we will be watching the Super Bowl...my team is playing.
I think sports are funny between spouses, either you love it or hate it. There's no compromise.
My Dh & his friends thought I was the coolest wife because when he was in school, he wasn't able to watch football. I would text message him, the updates and scores from HIS team's games. It was a way for us to bond while apart.

Actually, I don't mind sports. My husband is just much more intense about his teams than I've ever been. Even when they're 20 points up he doesn't relax.
One thing I could never do, though, is to watch football ALL day long for two straight days...
Oh, I will be watching the Superbowl, too. I'm just hoping for a blow-out. I'm always concerned a heart attack could occur during one of these games. Seriously...

Sure - We'll be watching PBS and the Puppy Bowl! We aren't that far, and I think the spare room MIGHT be ready for occupancy...

Sorry, SuperBowl party's at my house this year...and I'm the one that does the yelling & cursing at our house, although I try really hard to be lady-like about it. GO PATS =)

Ah, HH7 - I'll send hubby to your house. He's a PATS fan...
Kori - who are you pulling for?

Ahh shoot! This brought me to tears. Sorry football, I'm not crying because of decrease or increase of your ratings. Tears came to me because I've taken on some of my husband's characteristics now that he is deployed. BTW: I do watch football. My husband is the one to pass on the game. He, He..

I confess that I love watching football. Obi-Wan got me into it after we first married and now I'm hard core about watching it. I even make a point not to schedule plans with girlfriends on Sundays so I can watch the games all day with him. Since he's been deployed this entire NFL season, it has sucked b/c my partner isn't here to watch it with me. And he loves it too b/c I was in on the football pool he had going on overseas. I'm know I was the only spouse among his small group of friends that was in the weekly pool. And I loved it!

i was just having this conversation with my friend...
that just about the only good thing that has come from him being deployed is that I am not forced to spend my time watching football
when he was home... every tv on every floor would be on... so that he could take care of the *honey-do* list, run around the house and not miss a minute of the game
then if we would leave the house he would put it on his XM radio... good grief!
Not to mention the hooting and hollering I could hear from the basement, even when he was 2 levels up on the other side of the house.
...but truth be told I'd take a straight week of games if that meant he was back home and id get to lay against him on the couch, with ear plugs of course to avoid becoming deaf

Well, I'd say come on out to this *paradise*, but it wouldn't get you away from football or even sports in general. For one there's S.W.H.N.O.B.'s first swim meet on Saturday and Sunday -- followed by the Super Bowl, of course. However, you could always join her in the orchard picking oranges and avocados -- I promise you can't hear us yelling at the tv from down there. Well, not with the doors and windows closed, anyway.

Andi,
I'm a Jersey Girl, so I'm cheering for the Giants. They have always been my family's team since I was a little girl.

Andi, had you not mentioned that it was next Sunday, I wouldn't have even known. That being said, COME ON DOWN! ;)

HA! My husband DETESTS sports and especially football! If he could get a cable package without the sports channels he would be thrilled. I, on the other hand, don't mind watching a little sports now and then and am a huge Nascar fan. He can't stand that I watch every Sunday (a few Saturday nights) from Feb-Nov every year.

Andi, I was the same way.. but also b'c Dh would ask me for the scores and whatnot. I even watched my 1st basketball game last year when the Suns were in the playoffs.. hehe

Funny how the little things sneak up on you and remind you of your hunny.
You are more than welcome to come to Sunny San Diego...we're just going to see Disney Princess Wishes on Ice. I made it on Superbowl Sunday just for that reason.

Oh I WISH my husband was a football fan. Instead, Flyboy is a HUGE Nascar fan, and that season is much longer. About 32 weeks of giving up Sundays...ugh. We'll watch the Superbowl, though.

I'm afraid that I am mostly banned from watching football. Apparently family members think I slightly resemble a raving lunatic when watching the game. It's not like it's my fault that I was born into a legacy of loyalty to Cleveland teams. Any Browns fans out there will tell you that this team can make you a raving lunatic on any given Sunday. lol Although, I too, plan to watch the superbowl and even though I am not loyal to either team, I may still feel the need to rant a tiny bit:) I am going to root for the Giants though; can't root for Bill Belachik's team since he left the Browns all those years ago and went on to coach good teams other places. Sure, he got to escape the curse here but the rest of us are left with our loyalty to the dog pound and our eternal hope of next year!
